More Than a Bakery —
A Place to Pause

Stop by A’Carob for cakes, breads, coffees, and light meals. A cosy spot for breakfast, lunch, or a sweet break, with a touch of Algarve heritage..

Alvor has grown from a small fishing village into a lively town, full of new surprises. One of its latest gems is A’Carob, a charming bakery, café, and restaurant in the Dunas complex, right opposite the school. Through the window, you’ll see a selection of cakes and bread.

Why A’Carob?

The name A’Carob is based on the Carob tree, which is a native of the Mediterraen region, including Portugal, Spain and the Algarve. In the Algarve it is famous for it’s Carob pods, which are used in traditional sweets (cakes, biscuits and ice cream) and Carob flour with is a cocoa substitute. A’Carob can mean The Carob or At Carob, and their logo contains the Carob tree.

We brought a selection of cakes to try, and they were excellent. Full of fresh flavours. Talking to the staff, who were welcoming and very helpful, told us that there were two more shops, one in Portimão and another in Pedro Mourinha. In addition to their selection of breads and cakes, they also serve a great range of coffees, frappes, smoothies, iced teas, natural juices and milkshakes. They also make some homemade lemonades.

What’s on the menu

From their menu, they also serve breakfasts and lunches, in fact, according to their Google page, they are never closed. Reading through the reviews, the Eggs Benedict are pretty special.

We recommend a visit to this bakery, we’re going to try the breads, and we want to try a breakfast or maybe a lunch. All restaurants are wheelchair accessible and offer takeaway or dine-in options.
